Book review - Eleanor

Lightning Girl is a book by Alesha Dixon.
It is a story about a girl called Aurora Beam, who has had very weird things happening to her - sparks of lightning are shooting out of her fingertips! Her mum is a secret super hero and now Aurora's powers are beginning to show. No one knows that Aurora has these special abilities until her mother tells her that she is a superhero too. This book is about Aurora learning to control her powers, while managing problems at school and even fighting a super villain! It is about her first months of being a superhero. The book is exciting and very hard to put down, it flows very well and always made me want to read more.
The main characters include Aurora beam, Mrs Beam (mother of Aurora), Mr Beam (father of Aurora), Kizzy (Aurora 's best friend), Mr Mercury the science teacher, Aunt Lucinda and of course Lucinda's pet ostrich Alfred.
All of the main characters are funny, interesting and full of personality and all are described in brilliant detail. I liked Aurora and found her very interesting as she is full of emotion and is very easy to like. I feel like Aurora changed a bit as the story progressed as she learned to control her powers and became less gullible and more mature. She hates her science teacher Mr Mercury and tries to avoid him at all times.
This story was written in 1st person all the way through from Aurora's point of view this was very important as if it wasn't it would not make as much sense and wouldn't be as good. Some settings were described in better detail than others but all settings were described well enough for you to picture the settings in detail. Feelings were described equally well and were very important to the book so it’s very good that feelings were described with great detail. This was an amazing story and I would happily read it again. There was nothing I could say needed to be improved.
I think the author had a very good reason to tell this story as it shows that girls are equal to boys.  I felt very sad when it ended as the story no longer went on. I would happily recommend this book to anyone who  love adventures because it’s fun and exciting and I would definitely read another Alesha Dixon book if one came out.
