The Commentator by Maddie

Good afternoon and welcome.
This is Jack Burner your commentator
Welcoming you to this game
Between Russia
Image result for russian flag
and Portugal,
     Image result for portugal flag
Which they will be kicking off this afternoon.

At 23 Bluebell Lane
And the pitch has recently been trimmed
As Danny Martin prepares
To kick off for Russia;
And this crowd is ready for excitement
As Danny, the Russian captain, puts Russia on the attack.

Straight away it’s Robbie
With a smooth pass to Jeremy,
Jeremy back to Robbie,
Robbie in possession now
Skilfully passing the filthy scooter
And a neat flick inside the dog there,
What a brilliant player Robbie is
And is still only eight years old!

Robbie to Ben,
Ben to Robbie,
Robbie is through…
No, he’s been tackled by the hosepipe;
But, he’s won the ball back very quickly
And he’s advancing on the Dutch
Keeper now,
It needs to be a goal,
He comes of his line
But Robbie chips him in brilliantly.
It’s a goal!
It’s gone in Mr Fletcher’s next door,
And Robbie’s going round annoyed
To ask for his precious ball back….

The crowd is waiting silent now.

If he can’t get the ball back,
We are done for!
This could be the end.
The doors opening
And yes, it’s Mr Fletcher,
He’s saying that Robbie can go and fetch it.
But wait, he’s not in the back garden!
Look, there is Mr Fletcher – looking very suspicious......
Still no Robbie! .....

This commentary has been cut; the Wi-Fi is down. You will no longer be able to watch it. Thank you. My tea’s ready. Bye!

The Encounter of the Sand Soldier by Maddie

The next morning, Tom came up the stairs to see Willie reading [or looking at the pictures] the comic book Tom had given him. “Willie it’s time to get ready but first come and have breakfast. We can have some blackberries you picked yesterday.”
“Yes, Mister Tom I will come after I have got dressed.”
“Okay I will boil a cup of tea for both of us.”
Five minutes later, Tom and Willie were sat at the table eating breakfast when they were interrupted. “Hello, William, Mr Oakley. I was just wondering if William would like to go for a walk?” asked Zach.
“Please Mister Tom?” replied Willie.
“It’s up to you but if you’re going take Sam with you please!”
“Yeah.”
And, with that Willie got up, grabbed Sam’s lead and headed for the front door. Sam chased Willie excitedly and waited until Willie had put the lead on.
Then Zach, Willie and Sam began their journey around Little Weirwold. They only walked for ten minutes when they halted. Willie looked left and saw a lane he had never seen before. It looked abandoned. Zach prompted him to carry on so they did until they reached the end. The lane opened out to three different lanes shooting out. Then Zach finally said,” Let’s go left it looks promising.”
“Okay, I guess.” Sam ran in front of them but suddenly stopped. The lane they had just been walking on had expanded into a muddy field. Willie had second thoughts about the field.” Come on we have no other options.” Willie didn’t answer because Zach took two steps out into the field and began to sink. Soon, Zach was losing his balance so working as a team Sam and Willie tried to pull him up but then Sam fell in! What was Willie going to do?
He began to search the area and could hear Zach screaming and Sam yelping. Suddenly, Willie found two long sticks on the floor and reached them out towards them. Sam gripped on and using all his strength he pulled Sam out. Now, Zach was all under except for his face and hands. Quickly, Sam and Willie tried as fast as they could to pull him out. Sam tugged at Willie as hard as he could and it worked! Zach was free!
Five minutes past and they finally made their way back to the different paths. After finding which path it was they heard an explosion. Over the hedges they could see an aeroplane’s wing and knew that it was crashed.
As fast as they could they reached the town centre. In the distance they could see George, Edward, Michael, Carrie and Ginnie all talking. Zach, Willie and Sam ran as fast as they could until they reached them.
“Hey, guys this plane crashed near where we were standing but it is in quick sand. We need your help!” Zach said panting. At first everyone stared at him but they suddenly started running. Somehow Zach had restored some energy and led them straight there. While Willie and Sam were walking miles behind.
Once they reached the plane they could tell a faint shadow of a person. Michael and Edward had been carrying a long, wide wooden plank so they could climb to the broken plane.
Everyone carefully helped,” We need to hurry up because plane and the plank is already sinking!” shouted Edward quite stressed. So, Edward and Michael went to the plane [climbing] as fast as they could. Out of the shadows a small uniformed man appeared. He had lots of scrapes, cuts and bruises.
Two minutes later they had got the injured man to the rest of the group. Zach and William led the way when Zach had a brilliant idea. “Why don’t we take him back to Dr and Nancy!” Everyone soon agreed and in a matter of minutes they were there.
“Hello, Zach!” said Dr and Nancy.
“Wo have we got here?” Dr looked confused.
“This is a soldier whose plane crashed in quick sand! He has lots of cuts and scrapes. So we were wondering if you could help him?”
“How do you know he’s not a spy?” Dr replied.
“Because he definitely had a British plane!”
“Come here young man,” and Dr beckoned him to go to him.
“And what is your name?”
“My name is Jeff Wright and I have crashed my plane and the boy’s right I am one hundred percent British.” Dr started wiping his wounds and scrapes while Nancy gave the rest of them a biscuit and juice while they waited.
Finally, after a good hour Dr had finished examining and putting bandages on him. Then Zach asked pleadingly,” He has nowhere else to go and he will probably starve or die out there in the wilderness. So please can he stay here if he wants to?” Dr looked at Jeff then he said, “I guess he could stay here but only if Jeff wants to.”
“Yeah thanks for some shelter while my wounds heal!” replied Jeff.

Food of the Gods by Maddie

My starter that I do not have not very often is dough balls and sauce. It would have to be my favourite because the dough balls are warm and squishy with a hard coating on the outside; yet soft on the inside. When my dad tells me we are having it, I squeal at the top of my voice, “YEAHHHHHHHH!”
My marvellous main course must be Indian. It consists of poppadoms, garlic bread, mango chutney and plain rice. I adore this meal because it is spicy, delicious and amazing. Also I love dipping  the garlic bread in the mango chutney. I also scream when my parents tell me we are having an Indian Takeaway.
My delicious dessert is apple crumble and ice-cream. It is my grandma’s homemade one which is the best in the entire meal and world. The apples are always cooked to perfection and the crumble is always crumbly! YUM! My grandma pulls it out of the bag every single time.

Michael's Mystery Mission by Maddie

With a start, I suddenly woke up. Sweating like a pig, I carefully sat up in bed, reclaiming my thoughts one by one. I remembered my nightmare. When the blackbird fed my sister until she became stronger and stronger. Then she flew above the trees out of the nest to the garage roof. Mina was there, she stared at me from the garden wall. After that she began saying, “STAY AWAY!” “You’re danger!” All of a sudden, I heard the baby bawling and that’s when I woke up. I could hear mum and dad saying, “SH!” “We are here now.” It took a few a minutes until they were asleep and by then my eyes had adjusted to the pitch-black darkness of my room. The atmosphere was so quiet and strange that it sent cold shivers shooting down my aching back. I tried to pull myself out of my uncomfortable but warm bed, but it was no good. I still didn’t know if my parents were asleep but luckily I soon found out. Mum started snoring loudly like a whale so I started my daring mission. I found my torch and quickly put some clothes on which were lying around. I crept out of my room and down the hallway and stopped. Thinking what to do I crawled on my hands and knees the rest of the way to the bathroom door so nobody could hear me.
Steadily, I stood up after finally reaching the bathroom door. As I tried to open it I realised someone was in there. So I quickly hid behind the clothes basket.
Five minutes past and the bathroom door swung open. It was my dad. Sleep walking like a zombie. After he finally went back to bed I quickly went in to the bathroom. I had to make it quick so I got the jar of aspirin and started to climb down the stairs trying to dodge the creaking, bare floorboards. I walked down the hallway to find the kitchen. It felt like hours to find the key but when I found it I checked my pockets. Oh no… the jar of aspirin fell out my pocket as I was coming down the stairs. I darted to the stairs; the jar of aspirin was now rolling down it. CLICK, CLICK, CLICK!! I picked it up and carried on with my mission.
Cautiously, I grabbed the worn out old back door key and headed for the wooden hinged back door. Then I stuck it in the lock. My hands were trembling with fear and the coldness. I turned the key softly in the lock; to my relief it opened very quietly. But, then I thought this is stupid! Why am I doing this? There is no going back now.

Maddie's Book Review about Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Getaway by Jeff Kinney

The book was about Greg's family who went abroad over the period of the Christmas holidays. They
didn't want to stay at home because Greg's parents kept fighting and getting stressed out and his
dad hated being out in the cold shovelling the snow. Greg was the only one who wanted to stay at
home but he didn't have a choice and so they went on holiday to Isla de Corales which is the place
where his parents went for their honeymoon.
His parents wanted to stay in the same building where they stayed on their honeymoon but the lady
at reception said that the resort has changed since they’d last been there. The resort was now split
in two halves; the wild side and the mild side. Where they stayed on their honeymoon was now in
the wild side. Greg's family had to stay on the Mild side because no children were allowed on the
Wild side.
This book is number 12 in the series, but none of them are following on. Each book covers parts of
his life and like the other books and they are about a small part of the year in his life.
The book is about the holiday and everywhere they go something wrong or bad happens like: when
one little bird distracts the family while they were sat at a table outside; when the family are
distracted the other birds from the trees above swooped down and stole their food. There Iguanas
that wander around the resort on the Mild side and that scared Greg from ever going in the pool on
their holiday. Another part of the book is about something that happened with a spider and Greg but
you will only find out what happens if you get the book...
The main character is the wimpy kid called Greg and his family and friends who are: Rodrick, who is
his older brother; Manny, who is his younger brother; Rowley, who is his best and only friend and
Greg's parents. Rodrick is very mean and mischievous to Greg and Manny is very nosey and mean as
well. His parents are okay with Greg but sometimes can be quite disturbing and mean to him. I do
not have a favourite character because in the different stories I like different characters at different
times.
The story was written in the first person. If it wasn't in first person it wouldn't be a diary entry and it
would just be a story. The scene setting was described in detail for example it told how they went
through the snow and how cold it is for them. There were lots of feelings described in the book for
example: 'Well, my family just got back from holiday, and believe me, if I could've stayed home, I
WOULD'VE. But I didn't have a choice' clearly showed he was annoyed. It was a good story because
it drew you in every page and every page I turned I got even more excited. My favourite moment in
the story was when they always got caught wherever they went or whatever they did when they
were on holiday. I like the way the characters are in all the books and I wouldn't want to change
anything at all.
Jeff Kinney is probably basing the story on his own life and memories and just spun his own holidays
around to make it more fun for readers to read. I feel I am part of the book whilst I am reading it but
now after I've finished it I really want to read it again and wish I hadn't read it too quickly. I have
learnt from this book that everyone is different and like different things but it's always better to
listen to your parents. I would recommend this book because it is fun to read and Jeff Kinney is an
amazing author and my convincing reason is if you really like Tom Gates or Dork Diary you would
really like this book! Also, if you have read one of Jeff Kinney's other books you will also like this one

as well. I LOVE ALL THE DIARY OF A WIMPY KID BOOKS BY JEFF KINNEY!!
