Martens' Diary by Kaitlin

Dear diary,
Today me and my Grandpa had some alone time. We went down to the small, dirty pond (which has no sign of life) in the morning. It is mine and grandpa’s favourite place to go. Whenever we go there he tells me our family stories. Today we had a lot of free time so that means he could tell me a lot of stories. The first story he told me was my great grandma’s (whose name is Marie).

When your great grandma was a little girl (which was when the First World War was on). She used to go to the field hospital every day. She would take her little handmade basket - which was full of eggs - down to try and get some money for her family. On her way to the Field Hospital, she would collect some freshly bloomed bright red poppies. It was the same every day, then one day she had not made a lot of money. On her way home she came across a lonely Tommy. In the middle of a field, he was sat on a small, broken, oak wood chair. Writing in a note book, he was using a tree stump as a table.

She went up to him and asked him if he wanted anything. Instead of answering all he did was throw a piece of paper into a puddle. She asked what it was; he told her everything about it (in the end it turns out it was a poem). She bought it home and now we still have that exact poem by the front door.

Book review by Kaitlin

Awful Auntie by David Walliams
Stella Saxby is the sole heir to Saxby Hall. But awful Auntie Alberta and her giant owl will stop at nothing to get it from her. Luckily Stella has a secret-and slightly spooky-weapon up her sleeve...
The opening of the story is very slow, but also very exciting. The plot of the story is interesting but also has a spooky vibe to it. The ending of the story is cool because it like takes you in to the future and then tells you about the past. The book covers over 80 years.
The main characters are Lady Stella Saxby, Auntie Alberta (and her owl Wanger), Soot, Gibbon and Detective Strauss. Lady Stella Saxby is a little girl (who has got no parents). Auntie Alberta is no ordinary Auntie she is the meanest, evilest Auntie in the whole entire world/galaxy. Wanger is Auntie Alberta’s owl, he is a Great Bavarian Mountain Owl. Soot is a little boy and he gets forced to be a chimney sweeper. Gibbon is the ancient butler of Saxby Hall. Detective Strauss is one of the local policemen. They were not described much in the book but there were loads of pictures of them in it.
My favourite part was when Stella captured Auntie Alberta and Wanger, because it was like Stella’s revenge to them. I would recommend this book to people who love reading and having adventures. I rate this book 5 STARS out of 5 STARS!

Author letter - Kaitlin

Dear Rachel Renee Russell,

I’ve only just started to read your books but I’ve already read;
'Once upon a dork’,  ‘Skating sensation’, 'Crush catastrophe’ and soon ‘How to be a dork’. They are super good and inspiring to me, because I'm actually a lot like Nikki. I've got two best friends Poppy and Faith they never ever lie to me and they always look out for me, when I need help. My favourite book so far has got to be Crush Catastrophe because it’s really dramatic, has a lot of twists in it and is pretty emotional. My second favourite book has got to be Once upon a dork because it’s really dramatic, has a couple of cliffhangers and twists.

I’ve got some questions for you. Okay. Why did you choose the name Nikki? Which has been your favourite book you have written yet? What would you say Nikki’s personality is? Here is a bit about me, I've got a little annoying brother, two older half-sisters (who don’t live with me) and then my Mum and Dad. I'm ten but in thirty-five days I'll be eleven.

Yours sincerely Kaitlin

The Lost Thing Meets the Boy by Kaitlin

I had been sat on that beach for months and months. Nobody had ever noticed me; I guess they all were too busy doing other stuff. Then a creature walked towards me, I thought he was just going to walk past like everyone else. Surprisingly, he didn’t and he came towards me, he was gazing down at the floor as if he had lost something. Then he picked up my bell so I rang it. He quickly dropped it and stepped back. He came and inspected me, I started to feel a little bit shy because he had been the first creature, who had done this.

I did not know how to react.

The pigacorn.by Kaitlin

This spectacular creature,
Is half pig and half unicorn.
It gallops around like a wild pig,
When it eats, it eats extremely quickly and messily,
Its horn is super bendy.

Its beady little eyes stare right into your soul,
Its hair is as knotty and tangled as ever.
It has a huge pig nose,
And covered in mud,
Because it’s a pigacorn.
