Letter to a soldier by Jessica

Dear Denis Baker,
I am writing to you to ask you some questions and talk about the war. Was the war scary to you? Did you get much sleep? Did you ever fall out with anyone? Did you miss your family? Did you score a goal in the Christmas truce? How old were you when you went to war? And finally, did you lie about your age so you could go to war?
At school we have been learning about the war and it is very interesting. It must have been hard work. I would like to say a huge thank you for fighting for us in the war. You must be willing, kind, helpful, and most importantly brave. It takes a lot to go to war and potentially get killed. War was a horrible thing and it shouldn't have happened. You are a great person.
Your sincerely,
 Jessica

Author Letter - Jessica

Dear David Walliams
I am writing to you to say a few things. I am a huge fan of your books and I nearly have all of them. You are such an inspiration. Did you what to be a children’s book writer from when you were a child?, how did you come up with your stories?  and do you ever get bored writing your stories?
Ever since I started reading one of your books I fell in love. When I am reading your books I feel I am there with the characters. My favourite books you have written are Gangster Granny and Worlds Worst Children 1.
I am so excited for more of your books to come out as I am your biggest fan. At the moment I am reading Demon Dentist. It is funny, creative and descriptive. I hope you read my letter and  write back.
Your sincerely, Jessica

Creme Egg story by Jessica

I wish that I had never done what I did. It was all because of my job; I was a miner. I loved it. I used to take hours trying to open the egg. We all tried our hardest. If we did succeed then we were promised a lifetime full of money. It was perfect!

Well at least I thought it was. I was the one who managed to open the egg, I thought of all the things I would do first. I thought of the places I would go. I jumped up and down with excitement and was just about to tell Max (the man who had assigned us) the news.

He had already seen it and was going to reward me until drops of lava came out of it. He looked closer and saw the white coming out of it. We all knew that that was worse than lava, it was marshmallow.

Everyone started to run away from the marshmallow. It soon formed into a marshmallow man. He stepped on several of the workers and even on Max. I knew that there was no way that I was going to get my money now. It was past that. I had unleashed the monster that had once destroyed this town. Now there was no going back.

I already knew what he was going to do next. He came after me; he tried grabbing me several times but missed. Then an idea struck into my head. If I were to somehow manage to lure him into the lava then he would be roasted. He would melt and I could end this.

Without even thinking about what I was going to do next, I pulled the rope that was dangling down from his hat. His head tilted back and I started to drag him. The lava was close behind me so I pulled his head down as far as I could and ran the other way.

His head landed in a puddle of lava and started to roast. “AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH” The marshmallow man shouted. He was dripping with goo and everyone stopped to look at me. I thought that they would lift me up and start cheering but instead their eyes were red with anger.

“You did this.” One of them yelled.

“My whole family is dead because of you.” Another one shrieked.

I didn’t know what to do. They were all mad at me and started to charge towards me. I was scared; I didn’t know what they were going to do. I ran for it, I went past the hairdressers and through the tunnel. I was just about to give up and jump into the boiling lava but I had a plan.

I went into the goo of the marshmallow man and started to lick it. It tasted delicious! I soon convinced them to try it. They called me a hero when they tasted it. I found a new food, I had lots of money. I was rich at last.

Food of The Gods by Jessica

My “Food of The Gods” would be gammon, chips, pineapple and fried eggs. I love eating it and it is definitely my favourite meal. I have eaten it several times and not once have I not enjoyed it. I have a special way of eating it though. When you eat it this way you will not miss a single bit of the flavour.
Firstly, you cut a small piece of gammon -make it bitesize- and when you poke your fork inside make sure you push it to the top. Then you dunk it into the egg (make sure the egg is runny) and cut the chip in half. You put that onto your fork as well. The egg yolk should be dripping down and this makes you lick your lips. Then slice the pineapple and put that on your fork. Finally, get some of that egg white to give it more texture. If you don’t have much of the yolk, dip it in again!
When you put it into your mouth, all the textures will be going through your mouth: the roughness of the gammon; the crunchiness of the chip; the sliminess of the yolk and the slipperiness of the egg white.
The taste is the best part though. You get the juice coming out of the pineapple and don’t forget the saltiness of the gammon. It is simply delicious! Who wouldn’t enjoy this meal?

Skellig (opening) by Jessica

I got beaten last night by my dad again. He only beats me when he drinks at the pub across the road. When he started, I used to cry for days and days and the marks were terrible. He usually only does it on Fridays so that it will heal over the weekend. When the beatings were really bad they would last until Monday. I know it’s hard to believe that my body heals so fast but I have got special powers.
Whenever I have time, I try to see what else I can do. I go to school and do lots of clubs to stay away from home as much as possible. My mum is starting to beat me too so there is really no point in staying home. I hate them and I want to see what I can do about it. Maybe these powers could teach them a lesson but I don’t know.
My parents really don’t care about me but I have realised that if I run away then that would be teaching them a lesson because they cannot use me as a punch bag. I forgot to mention that my dad is giving my mum lessons to learn how to give me scars. My mum can’t give me scars yet but she soon will be able to.
I don’t cry anymore because I realised that they like it when I cry. I try to make them find no joy in beating me but it is hard. My powers could help me run away and I could start a new life. I was thinking of Florida as they would never be able to afford going there but I don’t really like the pictures I’ve seen.
I would have to have powers to fly but I don’t know. There have been signs that I can fly but I’d have to try it out.
I have decided to try jumping off the cliff near our school. After all, I’ve got nothing to lose. If I fall then I would die but it wouldn’t matter. If it worked then that would be a bonus.

Discovering the Lost Thing by Jessica

As I was walking down the narrow steps, I was thinking about adding to my bottle-top collection. When I reached the bottom step, I started searching in the sand. I stopped when I saw something red and dirty. Slowly, I bent down to pick it up. I started to hear some chiming sounds coming from the red thing.
I looked up and in front of me stood a very peculiar thing. It was the same colour as the chiming thingy but a lot bigger. Trying to find more about the massive red thing, I walked around it. In the window I could see a green blob. He looked very miserable or something, I couldn’t figure it out. It started moving so I opened a hatch and shouted, “Hello.”

The hatch shut. A couple of seconds later, it came alive. It lifted itself off the ground and a beach ball popped out. It started to hop around like it wanted me to throw it back to him so I did. All of a sudden, he threw it back to me. It turns out he was a lonely thing, that just wanted someone to play with.

The Shop by Jessica

Nick Watson got out of his shiny Jaguar and continued his shopping. He walked through the automatic door and grabbed a trolley. Nick pulled out a piece of paper and started to look through it. He called the first item out, “Potatoes.” A bag of potatoes started walking up to his trolley singing, “Buy, me I’m Gluten Free.” Nick stood there in amazement. He picked it up and threw it into his trolley.

He then called the second item off the list and the same thing happened again. Slowly, the milk walked over to him but this time he sang a different song, “Milk, today, is half price!” Nick wasn’t that surprised the second time, so he just puts it into his trolley.

He called the next item, ”Eggs.”
“Eggs, eggs, eggs eggs and eggs.” Nick places it into his trolley. He didn’t really like this song because he thought that it was too plain and it didn’t have any special at .

Finally, he called the last item, “Rice.” The rice came down the aisle singing,
“Rice, rice is very nice.” Nick was too tired to place it into the trolley so instead he threw it in the trolley.

He then goes to the counter and wondered what she will say. When Nick turned around to pick up an item only to find that nothing was inside it. Nick steps out of the queue and realises that the shop was about to close. Nick went to the automatic door and walks through.
